Child Rights Overview
In order to protect the rights of children, the United Nations created a 1989 agreement called the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This document outlines all the human rights and protections children must have so they can be safe, respected and empowered. The convention covers all aspects of child rights, from the right to go to school to the right to be free from physical or sexual abuse.

Schools should make sure that everybody, girls and boys, has an equal chance to attend and to make the most of their education. Both boys and girls must attend primary school, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and they should have equal access to secondary education.
